How-to: ditch dark spots
As you may have noticed by the lack of clothing covering your arms and legs, and the increasing number of beachside photos being uploaded to Facebook – summer is officially on the way.
It brings a smile to your face doesn’t it? The warm sand between your toes, the smell of sunscreen and coconuts – as well as the feeling of the sun hitting your face…
WAIT! Sun? On your FACE? No way! There’s no way you’re going to let your complexion come into contact with the sun this summer – the mere thought of dark spots and pigmentation is making you want to lock yourself indoors for three whole months!
Sound a bit like you? If you already suffer from dark spots, discolouration or pigmentation, or dread their development, never fear – there is a way to minimise the risk of a spotty-fate, post-summer. All you need to do is take the following three tips on board as it starts to get hot…
SKIN TIP #1: deal with the current discolourations
Before you start soaking up the summer sun, it’s important to do what you can to deal with any pre-existing dark spots and pigmentation, as this will ensure they don’t deepen in colour. Plus, it’ll give you the confidence to go barefaced – and that’s what beachside beauty is all about! We recommend giving Garnier Dark Spot Corrector Daily Unifying Moisturiser a go. With consistent use, this daily moisturiser works to illuminate and even out your skin tone by helping to break down dark spots and discolourations within your skin. And don’t worry if your dark spots are a result of acne scarring, over exposure to the sun, or even hormonal changes. This little beauty targets all types of skin discolourations, no matter what the cause or the colour of your skin.
SKIN TIP #2: exfoliate away
If you want to even out your skin tone, it’s important to remove older skin cells so that the new, healthy skin cells can shine through. Exfoliating every few days is a great way to help this along, and can really assist in brightening your complexion. Gentle, consistent exfoliation is also ideal if your skin is discoloured or shows signs of acne scarring, which is why Garnier Dark Spot Corrector Daily Unifying Moisturiser is even more effective in helping to get rid of dark spots. Formulated with vitamin C, which has anti-oxidant and brightening properties, it causes a natural exfoliating effect without being too harsh on your skin.
Extra tip: until your skin is even enough to go sans make-up, a hard-working concealer can be your best friend when it comes to disguising those tell tale skin discolourations.
SKIN TIP #3: shield your skin properly
Getting burnt by the hot summer sun is reason enough to whip out the sunscreen on a daily basis, however, preventing pigmentation is an even bigger reason to ensure you load up your face (and your body) with a hard-working, high SPF sunscreen. Keep in mind that one coat doesn’t quite cut the mustard in summer, either. Even if you apply a light layer of sunscreen under your make-up, do your best to stay out of direct sunlight – especially at the hottest times of the day (approximately 11am-2pm). Or, if you hit the beach, you should reapply your sunscreen every two hours, and after each time you hit the water to help ensure a pigmentation-free skin.
