The skin care prescription you need this winter
Whether you have normal, oily, dry, sensitive or mature skin, winter can wreak havoc on your complexion.
One of the main culprits is indoor heating, as “the sudden rise in temperature [compared to outside] can cause irritation and dehydration,” says Trilogy in-house beauty expert Corinne Morley. The result: your skin often becomes “more sensitised when the seasons start to change.” Thankfully, there’s a skin care ingredient that supports every skin type against the winter elements: rosehip oil.
According to Corinne, rosehip oil delivers “high concentrations of active ingredients to your skin, promoting normal, healthy skin cell function.” Trilogy’s Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+ formula also contains potent antioxidant ingredients including lycopene from tomatoes, phytosterol from acai berries and essential fatty acids (omegas 3 and 6) from cranberry seeds, making it “one of the best for helping hydrate, repair and rejuvenate skin.”
What’s more, as rosehip oil has a “fine molecular structure” like our own natural skin oil (sebum), it’s “readily accepted and absorbed by the skin and won’t clog or irritate pores.”
But rosehip oil alone isn’t enough to achieve the best possible skin in winter. You’ll also need some complementary products, which work in harmony with rosehip oil, for optimum results.
The good news? Corinne has taken the hard work out of finding your perfect product line-up, with the ideal winter skin prescription for every skin type…
Corinne recommends looking for “natural ingredients that hydrate, nourish and provide a radiance boost.” Trilogy’s trademarked ingredient, Rosapene™, is one such ingredient, combining the rejuvenating benefits of rosehip and cranberry, potent antioxidants from tomato and acai, and nourishing oat extract. Found in Rosehip Oil Antioxidant+, it provides “intense hydration, plus antioxidant protection for a healthy glow.”
According to our expert, “the most common mistake people with combination/oily skin make is using a harsh cleansing product” that strips too much oil from the skin. Corinne warns this can lead to “a vicious cycle of uncomfortable skin tautness and excessive oil production.” Instead, she recommends following a gentle cleanser with a lightweight moisturising lotion. Far from causing breakouts, “The right blend of natural and pure plant oils [including rosehip oil] is essential for a healthy, balanced complexion.”
If your skin is on the drier side, Corinne recommends looking for ingredients that “hydrate and nourish, while combatting the dullness dry skin types face.” Rosehip oil is rich in essential fatty acids, which have been shown to help repair and rejuvenate stressed skin. Corinne says Ultra Hydrating Cream is also great for drier skin types, as it “envelopes the complexion with an instant hydration barrier, locking in vital moisture and leaving your skin soft, supple and smooth.”
Dermatologically tested, fragrance-free products are preferable for those with sensitive skin. Corinne says rosehip oil often proves less irritating than mineral-oil alternatives, and also recommends “calming and soothing ingredients like green tea, calendula oil and camellia.”
According to Corinne, rosehip oil is “highly effective at improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.” For best results, layer your rosehip oil with Trilogy Age-Proof products. Powered by antioxidant-rich, anti-ageing ingredients, this skin care regimen will help “reduce the breakdown of collagen and keep mature skin supple, healthy and radiant.”
