Why your skin care products aren’t working

There are plenty of reasons why getting older is great, like not caring about what people think, or becoming incredibly wise and knowledgeable in many areas of life. But one of the not-so-fun parts is the toll ageing takes on your skin. It happens slowly but surely: you notice a few more lines and wrinkles, a dullness that just doesn’t do anything for your complexion, and maybe even some pigmentation problems.
So, you buy skin care products (usually moisturisers) that claim to target all of those ageing issues and promise to leave your skin looking radiant and more youthful. And when you don’t see a huge change in your skin, you blame the products. The ingredients don’t do what they say! It’s all just a bunch of marketing hogwash!
But the truth is, that’s not the full story. There’s a thing called ‘skin energy’, and when it’s high, it helps to boost cell turnover, which leaves your skin looking youthful. As you age, your skin energy decreases. Environmental factors like stress, diet, pollution, and UV radiation can also lead to the loss of skin energy.
And here’s how this affects how your products work:
When your skin energy is low, cell activity declines, impacting the appearance of your skin and its ability to absorb ingredients (dead skin cells begin to accumulate on your skin and act as a barrier, meaning products don’t penetrate as deeply).
So you can be using the best ingredients in the world, but if they can’t penetrate deep enough, they’re not going to be of much benefit to you.
That’s why Olay developed the Regenerist Miracle Boost Youth Pre-Essence.
In an effort to overcome the issues that come with a loss of skin energy as well as ineffective ingredient absorption, the skin care giant conducted research over the course of 10 years, across four continents. Over 50,000 hours of clinic testing later, and they created the Regenerist Miracle Boost Youth Pre-Essence, a two-part solution that helps women to get the most out of their skin care products.
Containing niacinimide to boost skin metabolism; olivem, an antioxidant that latches onto ingredients and delivers them deep into the layers of your skin; and pal-KTTs, which stimulate the production of collagen, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and promote firmer skin, the Miracle Boost Pre-Essence first re-energises skin to increase cell turnover and leave you with a more youthful-looking complexion. It then helps to overcome the barrier to absorption, so the ingredients in your moisturisers can finally work as hard as you’d like them to.
Applied after cleansing and before moisturising, the lightweight essence works to deliver two times the penetration of the ingredients of the Regenerist Microsculpting Cream than on its own. It can be used in conjunction with other skin care products, but it’s found to be most effective when paired with the niacinimide-rich Regenerist Microsculpting Cream.

The pre-essence has very good reviews. But I feel that the number of steps in my skincare regime is getting out od control: cleansing oil, cleanser, scrub, mask, serum, oil, moisturiser. Ane to put in pre-essence as well is a bit crazy

Interesting that western companies are following Asian skincare systems, good to hear that essences and pre essences (FTE for Asian) are starting to emerge because they really changed my skin for the better

Would be great to have trialled these! My main concerns are dark circles and bagginess under my eyes. Probably more sleep needed though! Doubt any product could fix it

Uh huh. Sounds like the latest marketing ploy to convince us we're the problem, not the commercial product with .000001% active ingredients that have no chance of efficacy. I'm calling bulldust on this one!!

I personally think to prevent my ageing i use a skin barrier cream, i think i will do chemical peels if i dont find wrinkle creams that actually work.

Somehow I believe it is also trial and error. What may be good for one skin is not necessarily good for another even if the skin is the same age and same type. I find the skin on my legs is extremely dry and after moisturising they feel soft and smooth but this smoothness does not last very long.
I exfoliate my face to allow other products to work better and I have come across some products I would purchase again but have not found any I would love to stick to.

I think that many mass market products don't work because they don't contain a high enough percentage of active ingredients. Smaller and less well-known skin care brands often have higher strength actives. I check ingredients lists to see where the active ingredients are.

This sounds innovative. Ive heard about the benefits of niacinimide before. The fact that it helps skin turn over and collagen production puts this one on my wish list

Oh, I would love this to have this product! When I wash my face in the morning, I feel like a lot of my products come off - like they haven't been absorbed. I love how this contains niacinimide - it's such a wonder ingredient!
