2008 was a year of big things (if you missed our super swift round-up of the crazily jam-packed year, click here for a quick run-down) but 2009 is set to be bigger, bolder and brighter.
Do we know something you don’t? Well we do have a few insider secrets about the year ahead – and luckily for you, we like to gossip!
Allow us to introduce your new best friends...
The new anti-ageing must-have: Smooth-365™ Intensive Clarity + Smoothing Peptide Serum
If ’08 taught us one thing, it’s that boosting the skin’s luminosity and reducing the appearance of dark spots is the new way to target pesky premature ageing. Smooth-365™ is quite a mouthful but boy, it’s worth asking for. The potent, state-of-the-art complex improves skin in three different ways in, you guessed it, 365 days: clarity-promoting extracts perfect skin tone for a more translucent complexion; optical diffusers instantly blur imperfections, lines and wrinkles; and high-tech power peptides surge in to wrinkles, helping to ramp up the natural collagen production that helps to keep skin firm and line-free. 34 days and counting ladies.

The new cult cleanser: Neutrogena Wave Power Cleanser
Wanting the most from our buck has never rung truer as we start the New Year a little unsteady on our financial feet. Something that’s set to bring good vibrations to 2009 is the Neutrogena Wave™ Power-Cleanser – a cleanser that’s economical, works and replaces costly trips to the salon. It’s sounding a-ok so far isn’t it? Clinically proven to clean 10 times deeper than ‘manual cleansing’ (that’s a face wipe to you and me) and having sold out in just three days in the US, prepare for handbags at Priceline!
The new hair hero: C}4u Masque Treatments
Bh was lucky enough to have a sneak-in-salon-peek at these and boy, were we impressed. There are five different masques to choose from (Frequent – good for moisture; Revamp – repairs damage; Curl Cure – rehydrates frizz; Colour Addict – restores coloured hair; Thermal – deeply strengthens) but here’s the best bit: your hairdresser will prescribe a boutique formula using different quantities of the masques to give you the most-tailored haircare revival ever!
The new dream cream to queue for: Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream
Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream is a luxury anti-ageing cream at a thrifty steal of a price (bang on $50). We know that you’re already sold but let us say our piece: the highly concentrated formula combines an amino-peptide complex with hydrating power. It’s so darn fabulous that the UK online waiting list reached 20,000 before it flew off the shelves and at least one of the wonder pots is sold every minute in the US and UK. Two words: fever pitch.
Available: mid February
The new optical illusion: Chanel Lift Lumière Firming and Smoothing Fluid Makeup SPF 15
Every woman would LOVE to wake up to a plump, youthful complexion, free from shadows and lines, complete with luminous glow. But we’re kidding ourselves thinking this is within reach right? Wrong. Chanel’s new Lift Lumière range does just that using the power of the Liftoptic optical illusion. Time for your science hats ladies: spherical silicone particles reduce the appearance of wrinkles by diffusing light in all directions while photochromic pigments adjust their colour to lighting. You don’t have to understand how it works, just know that it does.
Available: January 25
The new limited edition must-have: Guerlain Ombre Eclat in 404 Paradis Exotique
Fawn we did when this fluttered onto our desks. A picture simply cannot convey just how majestic this eyeshadow compact is – you simply must rush out and see for yourself. The bronze-green metallic compact gently etched with delicate plant motifs and an elegant bird of paradise houses a gorgeously eclectic mix of pink, orange, green and brown shadows all embellished with a pearly green leaf design – too pretty for words.
Available: February 22
The new lash lovie: Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara
Introducing Max Factor’s biggest EVER brush – it’s got a whopping 50 per cent more bristles and 25 per cent bigger core than our current staple Masterpiece Max. But what does it mean? Well, it can hold more mascara, it can connect to more lashes and it can separate lashes easier. 95 per cent of women who tested it said that lashes looked fuller while 92 per cent said lashes looked longer. And, as if you need anymore persuading, it’s got make-up legend Pat McGrath’s seal of approval: she used it in the Milan shows dahling.
The new mineral marvel: ELES Mineral Makeup Colour of Minerals Nail Enamel
The bh fave has come up trumps with a sleek collection of 14 nail enamels. The easy to apply, fast-drying, chip-resistant polishes correspond to, you guessed it, a particular mineral and offer everything from vibrant hues to subtle shades. The chunky bottles with thick black top (making it very easy to get an even coat) look very old-school Mary Quant, just don’t try to prise Muscovite Glitter away from us, we won’t give it, we won’t.
The new power ingredient: acai berry, found in Revlon Age Defying Spa Concealer
It’s official; acai (pronounced ah-SIGH-ee) is the new goji. The superfood from the Amazon tastes like chocolate berries (heaven), is loaded with essential fatty acids and jam-packed full of antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. So jump on the acai bandwagon and journey to younger, fresher looking skin with the new super concealer from Revlon. It sneaked its way into our clutches and we’re well impressed with the coverage and the use of stone therapy minerals to get our skin glowing.
