Weathering it for beauty
In some places you can take for granted that if the weatherman says it’s going to be sunny, then, well, it’s going to be sunny. Unfortunately, the same doesn’t always apply here - as I found out the hard way a couple of nights ago.
Heading out to surprise my friend after her work shift for her birthday, there was no-one more surprised than me when, just minutes from reaching her, the clear, balmy summer evening suddenly turned and the heavens opened - right on to me and my new frock.
Too far from my car to run back and change (and into what?? I’d come straight from work myself) and not really up for making my grand entrance in a puddle of water, I ducked into the nearest bathroom to take stock of the damage.
It was pretty bad. My formerly flawless skin was dull and shiny (can that even happen simultaneously?? Apparently so…), my once meticulously applied eyeliner had run, and my previously perfectly-ghd-curled hair was now a bedraggled mess. Well, I thought wryly, at least I was wearing Maybelline New York Great Lash Waterproof Mascara so was spared the black rivers running down my face!
Emptying my handbag onto the bathroom counter I prayed that the random products I threw in there on a daily basis would amount to something. Thankfully, for once luck was on my side.
Quickly patting my face dry I used my Bobbi Brown Blotting Papers to reduce residual shine, and brightened my washed-out complexion with my Australis Cosmetics Pressed Powder compact and some berry-tinted lipstick blended across my cheeks. With a stray cotton bud (don’t ask me how that got in there), I transformed my smudged eyeliner into a soft, smoky look, before slicking my lips with a Mineral Fusion Lip Glass (just one of the five glosses found!)
Finally, I squeezed the excess water from my hair, slicked it into a simple 20s style side bun, secured it with the bobby pins floating around the bottom of my handbag and was ready to go.
My friend was thrilled with my impromptu appearance and needless to say, so was I – although next time, no matter what the weatherman says, I’ll definitely be packing an umbrella!
Ever been caught in the rain? How do you save the day after a down-pouring?
