Blogstar entry: the Beauty of a Masterclass
How did you learn to apply makeup? Did you start by experimenting with your bestie as a teenager? In today’s technological world it is far easier to learn good makeup application from the plethora of videos and articles available on beauty websites such as Beauty Heaven, bloggers, companies’ websites and You Tube. However, my best method over the years has been the Masterclass conducted by beauty companies.
My first foray into these glamourous events were each conducted by Christian Dior and Chanel back in the 80s at the former department store, Georges, in Collins Street Melbourne. Each class consisted of 8 to 10 clients where we would sit at tables each with our own set of brushes, skincare, makeup, nailcare products and tools. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take them home. The classes were taught by the best makeup artists in Australia and we were taken through our paces from application of skincare and makeup as well as doing a manicure with a demonstration first, followed by our own applications. There were other consultants in attendance to guide us if we got into trouble. The atmosphere was fun and we had a great time and learned some great tips and tricks and always went home with a beautiful gift of products. I still have some of the Chanel brushes today.
The last Masterclass that I went to was conducted by Giorgio Armani a couple of years ago. It was simply fabulous. The class had the same set up as described above and we were supplied with champagne and delicious petits fours to keep us energised while we watched, listened and then played with the magnificent products. The atmosphere was wonderful and there was great camaraderie amongst the women and the GA consultants. The goal of the Masterclass was for each woman, no matter what her age group and colouring, to be able to learn how to use the correct skincare, apply makeup that suited them individually and walk out with a flawless face. The class went for several hours, starting with skincare and ending with makeup application. There were enough GA consultants to help each woman with techniques and in choosing colours, and every woman walked out of the room with flawless makeup applied by themselves. We floated out of the room, so pleased with our efforts and our very generous goodie bag of products. Of course you are charged a fee to attend such a class but that is redeemable with a purchase. As you can imagine, it is tempting to buy everything that you used during the class and I am sure some women did.
I highly recommend such a class for everyone to attend at least once, not only because it is great fun but the ability to practise on yourself with an expert by your side is the best. There are other ways of learning good techniques but, in my view, nothing beats the beauty of a Masterclass.
