How to choose foundation to match your skin type
When you’re on the hunt for a new skin care product, you’ll consider your skin type to help aid your search. But what about when choosing a new foundation?
If you’ve never thought about it before, watch the video above to see how selecting a foundation to suit your skin needs can make a BIG difference. The before and afters in the video tell the true story, and we’ve also put together a quick snapshot below.
NORMAL/COMBINATION SKIN
Look for: A formula that will flawlessly conceal any occasional imperfections.
bh’s Rosie recommends: Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation because the formula contains soft focus powders that create a blurring effect over pores.
DRY SKIN
Look for: A foundation that contains a hydrating ingredient for longer lasting coverage.
bh’s Kym recommends: Rimmel Lasting Finish 25HR Foundation. It contains a comfort serum that instantly hydrates the skin, with the added benefits of SPF 20 and vitamin E for extra protection from the elements.
DULL SKIN
Look for: A foundation with an illuminating formula, that visibly reawakens and covers any visible signs of fatigue.
bh’s Michelle recommends: Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation because it’s formulated with peptides and vitamin C to boost skin elasticity and illuminate the skin for a healthy-looking glow.
OILY SKIN
Look for: A balancing foundation that will mattify a shiny complexion.
bh’s Caitlin recommends: Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation. The gel emulsifiers and mattifying powders in the lightweight formula leave skin shine-free all day, with no dreaded ‘cake face’.

I loved this. I have been looking for a new full coverage foundation for dry skin. Knowing that Rimmel London provide SPF plus Vitamin E is very appealing. Thanks for the tips!

I really didn't like how this article only concentrated on Rimmel, it didn't really teach me what ingredients or formula to look for in a dry skin foundation. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

I have tried Rimmell foundations, but I can't seem to find one to my liking. My go-to foundation these days is Estee Lauder Double Wear. It gives me the coverage I like and the staying power for a day at work.

Rimmel foundations don't really work for me; the Loreal true match is my absolute favourite for flawless hydrating coverage

I tried that foundation a few years ago but its palest shade was too dark, and also too yellow/orange.

We all have different skin and it is important to choose a proper foundation for our skin types. I mostly go for light to medium foundation!.

I have used Rimmels liquid eyeliner and their nail polishes but had never thought of using their foundation. It looks as though it might be worthwhile looking into next time I see a Rimmel stand

What about ageing skin??? I'd love to start researching something for my mothers skin type. Finding her foundation is really hard.

I'm in my fifties and I agree that foundation for older skin is a challenge ... especially for dry skin that is also pale.

There is some excellent advice in this article! I FIND AS YOU GET OLDER use a bb cream that is as near as possible to the tone of your skin and use it sparingly don't plough it on.. Less is more as far as all make up is concerned in my view but I COULD BE WRONG!

The less is more theory in foundation does not work for me. Light coverage foundations pool into the larger pores and accentuate them. I prefer medium to full coverage foundations that have high pigment. At the moment, I'm really liking Estee Lauder Double Wear applied with a blending sponge.

As someone who has oily skin, I definitely agree about setting your foundation with a powder :)

This article should have been titled "How to choose a RIMMEL foundation to match your skin type"!!! Estée Lauder Double Wear is the only one for me now.
