How to create a smoky metallic eye

I’ll admit it. I don’t know who Tamsin Egerton is (Google has informed me that she is an English actress and model), but I do know that her make-up here is flawless. Absolutely flawless and downright beautiful.
Her complexion has that velvety smooth finish that still manages to look radiant and glowy. Her cheeks have that ‘I’ve-just-run-up-the-stairs’ flush. Her lips are pink enough to stand out without looking too dramatic. And her eyes…well, her eyes are just phenomenal, aren’t they? The combination of neutral shades with a metallic finish and long, fluttery lashes is just beautiful.
And while we can all admire this work of art from afar, why not take it a step further and recreate it for yourself?
Face
Always, always, always start with a primer. There’s no point in creating such a wonderful make-up look only to have it slide and rub off after a few hours. Plus, a primer helps create an even, smooth canvas for your foundation. Because Tamsin’s complexion is quite matte, we recommend using a mattifying primer to help keep any excess oil at bay. Try Estée Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer – it’s perfect for those with normal to combination skin who need to control shine.
If you want to achieve the same velvety finish, use a powder-based mineral foundation. Nude by Nature Natural Mineral Cover will give your skin a soft, natural finish without clogging your pores.
To achieve those hint-of-pink cheeks, opt for a powder blush that’s somewhere in between pink and peach. MAC Powder Blush in Fleur Power will do just the trick to give you that lightly flushed finish. Apply the blush with a stippling brush onto the apples of your cheeks and take the product up and back towards your ears. Make sure the blush sits under your cheekbone and follows the contour.
Tip: follow this with an application of the Nude by Nature Finishing Mineral Veil. It helps set your foundation and blush and will keep your skin from looking shiny.
Eyes
First, line your entire top lash line and half of your bottom lash line with a kohl pencil and then smudge the edges a bit. Try the Max Factor Kohl Pencil in Black. It’ll smudge like a dream without looking like a mess. Then, line your bottom water line with a white eyeliner. Rimmel London Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in White will open up and brighten your eyes.
Now onto the shadow. To make life easier (and cheaper) for yourself, find an eyeshadow palette that contains a mix of all the neutral eyeshadow shades you need. We like MeMeMe Eye Inspire Quads Collection in Goddess.
Apply a wash of the lightest colour to your entire lid, all the way up to your brow bone. Then apply the dark brown on the outer corner of your eye and just under your bottom lash line. You can also use an angled eyeliner brush to apply the eyeshadow to the socket line to enhance your eyes. Using the lighter golden colour, apply the shadow to the inner corner of your eye, leaving some space between that colour and the dark brown. Lastly, apply the darker golden colour to the middle of your lid, so that the shadow is applied over the centre of your eyeball. Take a clean, large eyeshadow blush to softly blend the shades and soften the edges.
Finish off with a coating of a thickening and volumising mascara. Revlon 3D Volume Mascara will help add volume to lashes without flaking or clumping. Tip: if you want to recreate Tamsin’s longer corner lashes, try Manicare Glameyes Diva Lashes in Alicia.
Lips
You’ll want to choose a lip colour that won’t take too much attention away from (or compete with) your eye look, so try something like Maybelline ColorSensational lipstick in Shocking Coral – it’s striking and subtle all at the same time. Just make sure not too layer it too much, otherwise the result may be a bit too bright.
What do you think of this make-up look? Would you recreate it?
