Brooke Blurton Reveals The Monthly Treatment She Never Misses
Brooke Blurton just made television history. It was announced today that the proud Noongar-Yamatji woman, who identifies as pan sexual (attracted to all genders), will be Australia's next Bachelorette.
Some of you may remember her from Season 6 of The Bachelor (starring Nick Cummins AKA The Honey Badger) or her stint on Bachelor in Paradise, but the 26-year-old is also a mental health advocate and youth worker.
About her job, she told beautyheaven: "Every day I support young people or families, whether that’s through career support, financial, mental health support or even just finding some families a place to live. A saying I have always lived by is that 'Everybody is fighting a battle you know nothing about, so be kind' and this has always helped with grounding me in the worst of times. It reminds me that a problem for someone is so different to everyone and their experiences are different. It also reminds me that kindness can be all a person needs during a tough time."
We're so excited to see Brooke bloom on The Bachelorette as she dates a first-ever cast of mixed genders on her quest for love. But in the meantime, we recently had the chance to speak to Brooke about her beauty routine and turns out she has some great tips on how we can all be more sustainable too...
You always have such a healthy glow. Tell us about your night-time skin care routine...
"My mother had beautiful skin, so I feel so blessed to have inherited her skin. My standard night-time routine is very simple: I ALWAYS wash any leftover makeup off with a cleanser in the shower and then use a night cream. That's it. Told you it was simple! I had always thought I was taking care of my skin, but it’s been only in the last year or so that it's improved since actually incorporating skin care and a routine. "
What are your favourite products for natural-looking makeup? Any advice for those wanting to embrace a more barely-there look?
"My favourite products would be a good tinted moisturiser or BB cream, definitely something that has SPF in it. I love the no-makeup makeup look, and a fresh glow always leaves you looking natural and refreshed. My advice would be to accentuate your favourite features of your face. Natural is better. "
Tell us about your hair care routine...
"I love having long hair, so I try to maintain it as well as I can. I use natural shampoos and conditioners without any hidden chemicals that are bad for my hair or terrible for the environment. I limit the amount of times throughout the week I apply heat to it and if I have time, I’ll do a hair treatment once a week or even use coconut oil."
What about beauty treatments? Do you have any regular appointments?
"I love BROW DAY! Brows are a definite consistent for me, I get them done every four weeks. I’ve been going to the same brow lady since forever and she absolutely knows what I want and need every time. Facials have been a very new thing for me though. Growing up as a tomboy, I spent a lot of time in the sun playing sport, so I wish I wore more sunscreen and learnt to take care of my skin a lot sooner. I have a facial or skin treatment roughly every 3-4 weeks, depending on how much I’ve been in the sun or flying. Flying dries my skin out so much!"
What are 3 things you've changed in your life so far this year to be more sustainable?
"I've been working really hard on reducing my plastic use. I always use alternatives where I can, i.e. taking my water bottle everywhere, using a keep cup, taking my bags to the shops. It’s now become such a habit! Another thing I’m super proud of is reducing the amount of driving I do. I live close to work, so now I walk, catch the bus, sometimes even run to work if I’m up for it. This has been such a rewarding feeling. Lastly, would be buying products that are ethically sourced, sustainable and made in Australia. I am still working on all this, but I think just starting to do your part can contribute. "
What's your advice for people who wish to be more sustainable, but don't know where to start?
"Start in the kitchen and what’s in your trash. We could all be recycling more than we should and it's a smart move for any environmentally-conscious person. I now know my own habits have become my behaviour. Every time I’m about to chuck something out, I quickly read and look at the label to see if it can be recycled or if there’s a better way to dispose of it. Look at whether you can replace any of your plastic with glass. That’s always a small, but significant start."
