Stopping cuticle infection
Q) “I have just taken my acrylic nails off due to nail salon cutting my cuticles and causing infection on three of my other nails – I presume by using her nail file.
My nails are terrible but it has now made me realise I want to grow my”¨natural ones again, what do you recommend for treatment of cuticles and nails? So far, I have been soaking my nails in tea tree solution which is helping to clear up Infection. Any advice you could offer would be most appreciated!” – Elaine, QLD
A) “We would recommend applying some nail fungus solution on those infected nails.
It is important to restore your cuticles as this will promote nail growth. Use a good cuticle oil, we recommend Avoplex Nail and Cuticle Replenishing Oil because it is very healing and nourishing. Use after the infection has cleared, not before.ӬӬ A good nourishing cuticle oil will keep infections out and it will condition and soften the skin to prevent it from cracking. ӬӬUse a good salon professional nail strengthener (try O.P.I Original Nail Envy) because it offers the maximum strength formula for natural nails, however if the nails are damaged and really thin, then use O.P.I Sensitive & Peeling Nail Envy for a period of two weeks before switching back to Original Nail Envy.
Remember to massage your cuticles with a cuticle oil or moisituriser as this will help bring the blood/nourishment to the matrix (where the nail is being formed) so having this as healthy as possible is always good.” – Karon McKendrick-Taylor, O.P.I Educator & Trainer
