How to get fuller hair

Fighting flat hair because it’s too fine, too lifeless, too URGH? Take a deep breath and step away from the mirror for a minute. Because guess what? You CAN have it.

While you can’t change the natural texture of your hair, you can employ some helpful tips to make it more thicker- and fuller-looking than it really is. From sneaky snip tricks to what products to keep front row in your cabinet, your locks are about to get a royal boost!
The right cut
It’s amazing what clever illusions your hairstylist can create with just a simple trim. Blunt lines, sharp edges and all-one-length styles create a full, voluminous look that gives the impression of fuller hair. Hot tip? Jaye Edwards says to avoid layers. Despite popular belief, they can actually exacerbate the issue further.
The right colour
Similarly, your hair hue can give the effect of naturally thicker locks. Highlights, lowlights and foils will help add dimension and depth to your hair. And for those who prefer to stay a one-colour blonde, try incorporating some subtle, slightly darker blonde tones throughout your hair for a multi-dimensional, thicker finish. Most importantly, take care of your colour. Brittle ends and a dull colour equal unhealthy hair and we don’t want that to happen. Stick to colour protecting shampoos and conditioners, and remember to implement a weekly hydrating hair mask into your haircare routine.

The right products
First and foremost, get your flat-hair kit in check. Volumising sprays, styling powders, shampoos, conditioners and sea salt sprays are ideal for fine hair, and hairspray will help make the volume last, but your biggest secret weapon is dry shampoo. Fine hair or not, these days they do more than just cover greasy roots. A good one will help prevent your hair from flattening, and will have a gritty texture that gives a fuller finish.

My tip is to get a trim regularly, it doesn't have to cost you your whole hair (even though it feels like it sometimes). It helps to avoid those wispy ends and your hair starts to become fuller and easier to style.

Recently, I am really liking eleven australia dry volume paste. It was a bit meh at first but once I used more (enough to cover both palms with product) it gives me so much root lift!!

I agree with a blunt cut. I have the John Freda sea salt spray and i am not a massive fan. I’ve liked others though I don’t remember the name of them.

I have really fine hair, so I have the quantity of product to use just right, otherwise it just looks stiff, sticky and so dried out

My fine hair has been so much stronger since I did that Aveda Invati trial last year. The stopping of the hair loss (which was huge) has automatically created an overall thickness too and I can definitely credit Aveda for that!!
I also like to take Carla Oates beauty 'glow' powder but also went on a regime of the Skin Physics powder - both have probiotics in it which I think helped my hair become healthier too.
I've been doing a lot of hair masks over summer too plus using the John Frieda luxurious volume serum which does a lot for my fine hair.

So many great tips. My hairdresser recently got me onto the eleven texture spray and I love it, it’s soo cool and smells amazing. I have also found that blow drying my roots (if nothing else) stops them from getting limp or oily and gives me more volume

I find volumising sprays have to be used very sparingly for me - they tend to make my hair look very strange if I use frequently - drying out the hair and leaving it prone to breakage.

Fortunately, I have healthy thick hair but one hair challenge I have is that the Fringe section always looks flat and falls into my face unless I pin it back.

The most important for me is the right cut (short and layered) and the right colour to suit my complexion. I also use a texturizing spray if I think my hair is falling flat at any time.

Can you advise how texturising spray works? One product I've not tried yet and keen to know more.
