Just wondering what are the most effect products you use to prevent scarring. Right now I've got puppy arms with a million scratches and cuts. It's a good thing it's winter so my arms are covered when I go out.
Collegen Cream would be a good thing to use also Vitamin E Oil as well.
Hope that you find something that works you might need to get the Vet to show you how to trim the nails of your lovely Puppy.
As the scratches will be much deeper as he/she gets older.
Wishing You a Great Day.
Thanks Margi59. I just bought a trimmer, waiting for it in the mail. I'll check out the vitamin E oil.
thanks for this
Rosehip oil and Jojoba oil are good.
Thanks Lisa359. Did not know about the Jojoba oil. I have a sample from a
Priceline box so will start using it.
Oils are great to help prevent scaring. You can get bio oil from the chemist. That’s amazing but a little expensive. Or a regular rose hip oil, jojoba oil, tea tree oil or frankincense oil will do the trick.
I don’t think our puppy scratched us that much GeeJ. If anything We had more of a problem with her biting. So I’m no help to you. again. Sorry
Vitamin E in oil capsule form really helps. I was advised to use this post-surgery after having a skin cancer removed & it worked a treat. Mind you, I had to do it every night for about 3 months to get the results (and it was a bit time consuming), but in the end it was worth it as my scar healed incredibly well.
Thanks very much Seashells, next time I go shopping I'll definitely buy some capsules.
Have read about vitamin E capsules being helpful, good to hear they worked for you.
I used Bio Oil on my gallbladder removal scar with success. My friend used it on her caesarean scar with great success to.
Thanks cityglenda, I've got BioOil so I'll start using asap.
I was also going to suggest Bio Oil and I also found that when I used Nivea 4 in 1 body oil my scars also faded quite noticeably and they were surgery scars. This has the added benefit of re-hydrating your skin too, and best used if skin is still a bit moist which makes it go further.
The brand Thursday plantation has a macadamia oil that I use on my scars and I find that it softens out the scars over time and they begin to fade away.
Thanks Ameena0805, and welcome to the forums.
I agree with the suggestion of using vitamin E oil to reduce scarring. Try to find a product with the highest percentage of vitamin E in it. I had a very old and stubborn scar that was raised. I used Plunkett's Vita E Oil and it removed some of the scar, but not all of it. This was a few years ago and I've just repurchased it to have another try at reducing the scar:
Cold-pressed tamanu oil can reduce scarring. Tamanu oil has an unusual scent that some people dislike, but it doesn't bother me. If you're going to buy tamanu oil, do some research as some are better quality than others.
Chemists sell a product called Dermascar which you can also try.
Thanks Petal, I especially have a raised scar that I want gone. I am going on a Vitamin E haul soon :)
Thanks for telling me about the scent of the Tamanu oil. I really dislike most scented products, so will not even bother checking that out.
I find Hiruscar works really well in helping the wounds heal without scarring and helps old wounds soften and fade over time.
I am in a quandry, these oils sound so good and are, but the scars are on my chin, which is actually where the pimples are still coming up, so it's a mix of pimples and scars, so the oils are good for the scars, but sort of make the pimple situation worse!!!!
Shop A Everyday, if you can handle the smell of tamanu oil (I don't think it is offensive), it may even help your pimples. Here is a thread on Makeup Alley on tamanu oil for people with acne, scarring etc:
Here's a bit more information about tamanu oil, but there's plenty more if you do a Google search on it:
Thankyou for those links, I will read up on them now Petal
I have not heard of Tamanu oil so I am really curious
Thanks so much xxx
A friend of mine always talks about Bio-Oil which helped her with previous scars, where as it didnt do much for me. Maybe try that and see if it works for you .
Thank You Petal for the information on tamanu oil have never heard of this oil before. Will definitely look it up and see for sure.
GeeJ I hope that your pupppy is scratching you less now!
Personally I have not had many success with products to reduce scarring. I have had quite a number of surgeries and I used to have very dry skin (due to shower 3 times a day) so I would unconsciously scratch myself resulting in many scratch scars (and I scar easily too). I didn't find anything helpful for me once the skin has broken. But I did find that if I keep my skin both hydrated and moisturised (i.e. use body lotion AND oil), then my skin is a lot more difficult to break. Not sure if it helps but just thought I would share my experience.
P.s. your puppy is super super adorable!
I bought Hask Repairing Deep Conditioner – Argan Oil from recent rewards room.
My hair is very long and I often trim it myself couple of times a year.
I received this via the Rewards Room on May 2021. I have the watermelon version and it reminds me of summer, it smells sweet and fruity a bit like punch.
I ordered this in the rewards room recently and have liked it so far. Vagisil Scentsitive Scents White Jasmine Daily Intimate Wash comes in a bottle that is larger than expected.
