How-to: ditch the winter dreariness
Winter sure can bring out the grumpy, lazy so and so in all of us, can’t it? You find yourself huddling under your blankets instead of hitting the town, indulging in all of your favourite winter comfort foods (and feeling the guilty afterwards), and worse still - pushing your regular grooming routine to one side.
I know, I know; it’s hard to focus on shaving your legs when dreams of sunny Sunday BBQs are clouding your thoughts. Likewise, the last thing you probably feel like doing in the middle of the chilly season is removing your clothes and completing a top-to-toe body moisturising session.
But before you cringe at the thought, try to remember that you always feel your best when you’ve got the looks to match. Proper grooming helps to pull you out of a dreary winter slump and make you feel healthier and as though summer is well within your reach. So go on, try these tips and feel the difference…
TOP GROOMING TIP TO PULL YOU OUT OF A WINTER SLUMP #1: Become fuzz-free and fabulous
Foregoing hair removal in winter leaves you with no choice but to opt for pants, long skirts and trousers day in, and day out. Now, while that may not sound like the worst option when it’s the middle of winter, let me tell you, when your legs are hairy you’ll NEVER feel sexy (especially if you don’t sleep alone!) Regular hair removal upkeep will not only keep your legs smooth and silky, but it’ll also provide you with a sense of empowerment that says ‘I look after myself even in winter and I could rock a mini skirt tomorrow if I wanted to!’ See? Brilliant.
You may not know this, but skin is most healthy and beautiful when it’s nourished. The best bit is that it doesn’t take that much to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy. Unlike the skin on your face, all you need to do is exfoliate (once or twice a week) and moisturise your skin regularly and it will return the favour by not becoming dry, flaky, scaly and itchy. Plus, soft supple skin also helps make everything you wear look that much better – bonus!

TOP GROOMING TIP TO PULL YOU OUT OF A WINTER SLUMP #3: Treat your skin right
During the year, it can be very easy for us to stick to our regular skin care routines and ignore the changing temperatures. And while you might find it great to stay blissfully unaware of these changes in temperature, your skin certainly doesn’t – which is the very reason you seem to be plagued with dry and flaky skin that looks dull and dreary, too. As the seasons change, so should your skin care regime. It’s important to switch to products that are rich and nourishing to effectively moisturise your skin to the max and keep it protected against the harsh winter elements.

TOP GROOMING TIP TO PULL YOU OUT OF A WINTER SLUMP #4: Inject some colour into your life
Nothing pulls you out of a dreary winter slump like a hot flash of colour. Be it a warm pea coat in a bright cobalt blue, a fantastic pair of red booties, or a delightful pop of colour on your lips. But since black is the unofficial colour of winter, you, like people everywhere, probably have a cupboard that’s already full of black coats and jumpers, right? So instead of a wardrobe overhaul, simply channel a piece of summer by glamming up your look with a slick of bold lipstick or a colourful liner instead. A pop of colour really is what the doctor ordered on a dreary winter’s day.

TOP GROOMING TIP TO PULL YOU OUT OF A WINTER SLUMP #5: Lift your mood and your spirits
If you find yourself battling through the winter chill when you wake up in the morning, it can be hard to find the motivation to get out of bed and face the day. You’re probably thinking more about getting your hands around a piping hot cappuccino than what it will take for you to feel uplifted – and hey, we understand. So what if we told you that a spritz of a refreshing, totally uplifting scent could put just the right amount of spring into your step in the mornings? It would be well worth picking up one to see you through the chilly months, wouldn’t it? Look for perfumes with warming notes like citrus and exotic woods to feel totally uplifted.
