Affirmations: Miranda Kerr uses them, so why don't we?”
I was lucky enough to meet Miranda Kerr a year or so ago, and while I was most certainly mesmerised by her bouncy hair, super-cute dimples and luminous skin, she made a longer-lasting impression when she handed me a copy of her book, Treasure Yourself, and told me to keep it. Little did I know how intriguing and inspiring this read would be…
In addition to a peek at Miranda’s childhood and recent past, Treasure Yourself is a book filled with a collection of motivating thoughts, memories, life lessons and affirmations from MK herself, as well as renowned spiritual leaders and authors. It’s all about evoking self-confidence, acceptance and realising your inner beauty, as well as encouraging self-improvement.
Now, you’ve probably all seen it in bookstores before, but have you had a proper read of Treasure Yourself? You should. I recently picked this book up again, and upon flipping through its pages, I realised my life could do with some positive affirmations. Each and every one of our lives could, really. Miranda is huge advocate of affirmations, and if they work for her, they’re worth a try, right?
But what exactly are affirmations? Essentially, they are simple statements. And although some statements can be negative, it’s the positive ones that are most useful. These statements can be spoken out loud, inner thoughts you tell yourself, or written down and posted in a private or public place. And how do they work? Well, if you continue to repeat a positive statement over and over again, it is more likely to affect your life in a positive manner. For example, if you wake up and think, “I feel happy and joyous”, you’re more likely to see the positive aspects of your day, no matter how tiny or irrelevant they may usually seem. Because by bombarding your subconscious with positive thoughts and desires, you’re more likely to make them a reality. Interesting, huh?
A FEW AFFIRMATION TIPS AND TRICKS
#1: always be positive. “Today is going to be a fantastic day.”
#2: turn the negative thoughts around. Instead of “I am fat”, tell yourself this: “I will eat healthy and exercise today.”
#3: always use present tense. “I am going overseas this year.”
#4: repeat your affirmations throughout the day to reinforce their positive effect on your day-to-day life.
#5: always be specific, without being ridiculous. Instead of “I will get rich”, use “My hard work will soon be rewarded with a promotion”.
So, do you have an affirmation you’d like to make a reality? Maybe you have many? Or maybe you’d just like to add more positive thoughts to your day? Either way, why not get out a pen and paper and jot down your own affirmations. From exercising and health goals to self-love, relationship and general happiness, there are lots of positive life changes you can help bring into your life…
Have you read Miranda Kerr’s Treasure Yourself? Have you used affirmations before? What affirmations are you keen to use to bring positive changes to your life?
