I have to admit, before attending the launch of the new-look Lush store in Sydney, I wasn’t all that sure of the importance of palm oil free products.
When I arrived at the store, I was introduced to an inspiring young boy, Daniel Clarke, a Cerebral Palsy sufferer with an un-shakeable devotion to saving his beloved Orangutans. Due to his inspiring dedication, 12-year-old Daniel has raised over $600,000 to preserve the jungle and its inhabitants and has been appointed Young Ambassador of the Australian Orangutan Project. He is thrilled to be supporting Lush in its choice to produce palm oil free products for consumers.
So, why is Lush in a lather over palm oil?
This natural bath and body brand has recognised that the only way palm oil will ever be sustainable is if the level of consumption doesn’t put such a strain on the environment.
Basically this means that the more palm oil we use, the less rainforests can exist around the world. Shocking figures show us that almost 90 per cent of the orangutan habitat has now disappeared due to palm oil overconsumption and further to that, the United Nations Environment Programme predicts that within 15 years 98 per cent of the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia will be gone.
So, if you love your soaps, lotions and sweet-smelling bathtime treats, look no further than this healthy haven – where you can give your body the best and at the same time help to keep our forests... well, lush.
